Strasbourg is perhaps France’s most beautiful town – only it isn’t a town!
Nestled in the eastern region of Alsace, and bordering Germany, the city of Strasbourg has maintained an astounding balance between its past village life and the amenities of a modern city.
It all starts in the center of town, where the cathedral dominates, and in the evenings the square is theatrically alight with all sorts of characters.
Around the heart, the historical town spreads out like many veins, richly carrying the life-blood of one of the most attractive pedestrian areas in the world – you will absolutely fall in love with Strasbourg’s historical district!
And then, once you think there can be nothing better than the old town, you reach the canals that surround it.
And you cannot but fall head over heels in love with Strasbourg!
It is simple and genuine – not trying too hard to be something that it isn’t.
No Disneyland-fake architecture or murals, no Hollywoodian movie sets – Strasbourg lives au naturel.
And invites you to have a bite of life.
Overall, Strasbourg lives up to its reputation as one of France’s most picturesque towns. At the same time, Strasbourg is the official seat of the European Parliament and a thriving city of around a million people!
Yet, from the cathedral outwards to the canals, it has maintained a sense of village community that is commendable in its attractiveness.
In fact, some very famous people visit Strasbourg to experience this fantastic town. Here is HH Sheikh Hamad bin Hamdan Al Nahyan with Strasbourg’s deputy Mayor M. Gsel during a stop to tour the cathedral!
Strasbourg has magnificently navigated over two thousand years of progress, but at its center it has maintained a proud and pure identity – chapeau!
