IZU is above all a happy place – great vibes, a shared feeling of this-is-the-weekend, and a superb place to enjoy a leisurely brunch with friends and family.
And I’ll highlight right away my new favorite Eggs Benedict in Dubai!
Besides the obvious request as to how you’d like your eggs done (and actually delivering on the request), and the luscious yolk and lemon butter sauce, and we’ll get to the beef bacon later – the real trick to a killer Eggs Benedict is in the freshly-baked sweet bread buns!
And IZU is a brasserie on one side, and a bakery on the other – and so that combination is a winner as far as Eggs Benedict go.
Bacon as well… sure, you can go with salmon, and spinach, and avocados, and all sorts of fancy gimmicks – but for me, slap that bacon on there!
Even if it is veal bacon, as is the case at IZU… but look at the scrumptious crispiness of that halal bacon! And it tasted just as good as it looked.
But let’s move on – IZU’s eggs ben were so good, I got a little over-passionate in trying to describe just how good they are!
In fact, as I found out during my visit, there are other items on the menu which deserve just as much air time…
Just look at that incredible, amazing, simply delightful – and totally real Italian-tasting Tiramisu.
Not too sweet. No cream or vanilla custards. Just a proper Tiramisu as made in Italy for generations: Savoiardi biscuits, dipped in espresso, layered and smothered with Mascarpone cheese.
Real Mascarpone. No cutting corners. Keep it real, keep it simple.
But I still have more to say about IZU…
The pasta was perfectly cooked – al dente.
The linguine al nero di seppia (squid ink) were a very interesting choice to go with a very well grilled salmon, with creamy saffron sauce – a superb dish, fit for a King.
The ambiance was chill and friendly, and I may even say, humble, when compared with the quality of the dishes served.
With due emphasis and priority placed on a prized coffee machine, which indeed belted out a top-quality coffee.
And remember the bakery side of IZU?
Well, I’ll have to leave that for another article to sing its praises…
All in all, IZU Brasserie & Bakery is a rare jewel operating at the top of class among Dubai cafe-cum-restaurants – the quality and sheer deliciousness of the dishes prepared at IZU were phenomenal, making it a solid choice for a superb weekend brunch at The Walk.
