You can hardly find a table for brunch at Ella’s Eatery, nestled on the waterfront at Palm Marina East – and so I’m a little late with my recommendation for what must be one of Dubai’s best weekend brunches!
But the vibe makes it worth it, and the unique character of Ella’s approach is a big hit.
First of all, the shady terrace is directly facing the marina, and so the location is both glamorous and tranquil.
This is the view from your table:
And inside, solid wooden tables welcome you with charm, and the natural light grants a deceptive spaciousness.
Deceptive because as you’ll soon find out, that massive table is going to be completely covered with delicious breakfast delights!
Ella’s Eatery concept for weekend brunch is for a very modest fixed amount, you can choose up to six dishes off the breakfast menu…
And each of those dishes are a masterpiece of yum!
Did you count them?
That’s six… and your weekend starts off with joy!
Besides presenting a fresh approach with choice of 6 rather than one large portion of one item only, the good folk at Ella’s also carry another secret up their sleeve.
The dishes are instantly recognizable as standard yummy international breakfast items, but actually those prepared at Ella’s have a special twist.
You’ll notice it in a dish such as Ella’s Fishcake, with perfectly-prepared poached egg, and creamy sauce:
And you ponder: “Oh, that’s interesting – fish cake for breakfast…”
Actually, it was super delicious, and a gem of a selection among your six options.
The fact is Ella’s is a Scandinavian restaurant!
Swedish, to be precise; and as such they bring forward a European fare, but not continental, in the sense of the way breakfast classics like Eggs Benedict are normally prepared.
Ella’s Eatery adds their own culinary flair, a dash of Scandinavian culture, which undoubtely people from northern Europe will recognize instantly – “Wow! It tastes just like my Grandma would make it!” – and for the rest of us, the flavors carress our palate with a delicate twist that elevates a familar dish into a new dimension!
Every single option was in fact extremely delicious.
Even the most simple options, such as the above rye toast with peanut butter, banana slices, and honey, was so good!
You may think: “Well, I could just make this at home…”
But no. Unless you are Swedish, and a talent behind the stove, as Ella!
More complex dishes also impressed, even within their simplicity: fresh ingredients, accurate timing of the heat application (especially the eggs), and then that magical Scandinavian touch.
Below, fluffy blueberry pancakes for the win…
Piping hot coffee a-go-go…
And you’ve surely noticed the invite to upgrade your brunch!
Frankly, six dishes were totally fulfilling, and I’m glad the portions are not exaggerated in size – additionally, the options on just the breakfast / brunch menu are so many, that there will always be a new dish to try next visit.
In fact, I regret not selecting the Shashouka (four different types!), and the Eggs Ranchero… and Ella’s Breakfast Muffin…
Oh well, there’s always next weekend!
And so, for a very interesting and delicious weekend brunch, with Swedish flair, presented as a set menu with many and varied options, all spectacularly delicious, see if you can elbow your way into Ella’s on Palm Jumeirah for weekend brunch!
Note that parking and finding a table might be challenging, for good reason!
