About

A freelance travel and motoring writer and photographer since 2004, living in UAE since 1999 (Al Ain!) Paolo Rossetti has published over 200 articles in The National, Gulf News, and Khaleej Times, as well as Arab Wheels, Middle East Car, Top Performance, and Wheels magazines. This love for cars and travel has taken him on an amazing journey of discovery in the UAE and Oman - and in this blog, Paolo wants to share his knowledge of great places to visit with you, just like numerous good buddies have shared their stories with him. Paolo is sad to hear of UAE expats (and nationals!) who spend their weekends bored in malls, when he knows there are awesome adventures to be had if only people knew where to go. Check out the photos and you will be astounded - is this really in the UAE? You betcha! On this website Paolo provides a lively travel article on a monthly basis, with description, photos, route, GPS file, and even a Google Earth map for you to follow at your leisure. It's free of charge because Paolo is not motivated by profits but by his admiration of the UAE and by helping you make the most of your stay in the UAE, be it a few months or a lifetime. To adventures!

Weekend Dining at Amuni, Mediterranean Riviera Restaurant in Dubai

Destined for greatness

With the synergy of years of experience from its founding team, Amuni is just born yet already belting out a superlicious menu combining the best cuisines of the Mediterranean Riviera, from Italy, to France, and Spain!

And it’s just a marvelous restaurant even without its menu…

Besides the views, Amuni does a lot with its dining hall decor, with very careful attention to detail and an eye for elegant design.

However, it is when the first dishes arrive at your table that you realize you are now in a culinary paradise!

The salmon tartare is infused with beetroot, to highlight its color, in contrast to the green basil oil – and that is the level of detail that you can expect at Amuni.

Arancini – little balls of aromatic saffron risotto, cooked to a very pleasing crispy exterior, and topped with parmiggiano reggiano, enchant the tongue with their playful texture.

Similarly, the carpaccio is thinly sliced – so thin it melts on your tongue, after releasing its fragrant flavors…

Each plate is served with an understated yet marvelous flair – and dining at Amuni is a pleasure in all senses.

The good Chef is like a virtuoso orchestra conductor, acutely aware of the placement and tempo of each note, each musical instrument – and together they are combined masterfully to provide the most exquisite fine-dining experience.

The mains again are inspired by the Mediterranean coastline – seafood reigns supreme: yet there are also earthy surprises!

The truffle pizza was in a league of its own – not only because of the generous application of real truffle (because truffle oil, in case you didn’t know, nowadays does not contain any actual truffle; just like vanilla essence no longer comes from the bark of the vanilla tree), but the truffle pizza at Amuni excelled also because of a genius decision to add a smoked cheese – provola – and that extra dimension of taste just hits this simple baked dough specialty into the stratosphere of epicurean delights.

The mains continued with similar gusto…

Either fish, meat, or fowl, the dining experience at Amuni was spectacular – you really can’t go wrong, and one might as well close their eyes and select blindly from the menu – and next visit just choose something else at random!

The slow-braised beef cheek, above, did not require a knife, and it fell apart with the waft of a fork – and the pairing with a lively Merlot was excellent.

Dessert continued to impress!

A delectable rendition of an apple tart led the way,

And two superb surprise morsels of chocolate and pistachio brought the meal to a celebratory ending with coffee!

It seemed nothing was left to chance – and for a newly-launched restaurant, Amuni is already operating at a very high level of culinary finesse.

Overall, I will not be alone in forecasting a phenomenal future for Amuni, a rising star in the Dubai fine-dining scene: Amuni restaurant is inspired by the extraordinary views across the Dubai coastline, and the impressive cuisine from the kitchen teams does effectively add a Mediterranean Riviera dimension to metropolitan Dubai’s culinary scene, the likes of which will delight the city’s gourmets.
