Some weekenduae old-timers will remember my review and devotion to the Solo Stove, which I still to this day carry with me on every outdoors adventure…
Well, the number one comment I keep getting, besides “This is awesome!” is “I wish it were a little bigger…”
TA-DAH!!! Bigger version!
The good folk at Solo Stove in the USA have in fact launched a line of bigger firepits.
While the original Solo Stove can be fueled very efficiently by twigs, the larger brothers can take on chopped logs, and of course shoot out a lot more heat.
Interestingly, they maintain the exact same design.
The Ranger Stove came packed professionally…
And the design and quality of the stainless steel finish is excellent.
The double-walled, double-floored design is what makes the Solo Stove so efficient – basically the wood lasts longer and burns completely with very little smoke.
However, unfortunately, my Ranger arrived with a giant dent in its back… and not from transit, either, because the packaging was excellent.
I guess for a review item they figure only the front side counts… not impressed.
However damaged, fair is fair, and the review proceeded on its own merits, and indeed the Ranger Stove performed fantastically!
It comes in a handy carry-bag, and you can take it anywhere with a car.
You throw in some wood, and before long the Ranger is a furnace!
I’m not sure how hot a fire can get before it is considered a kiln, but we consistently recorded over 500c.
And, incredibly, thanks to the very clever design, the outside remained a relatively cool temperature…
In fact, you can run the Ranger on any patio or terrace, and the flames are fully contained.
Even after the flames had died down, the coals maintained the temperatures!
Spectacular, and the center of conversation every time it’s lit in company…
And despite its size, still easily transported.
We took it to the mountains….
… to the beach…
… and to the desert…
…where even a few twigs got it started, just like its little brother!
And not before long:
Wherever you need a campfire that needs to be contained and safe, and doesn’t leave coals on the ground, the Ranger does its job.
The Ranger Stove can be purchased online, and you can find all details here.
