Belgrade is above all a city of lively eaters and shoppers!
Sure it carries a historical legacy of such complexity that a lifetime is not enough to fully understand, and the geographical location on the intersection of two major rivers is fantastic, but nothing can prepare you for the buzz of the evening crowds heading out for an evening of fun.
There are peaceful moments, of course, and time to explore the city is rewarded with amazing views.
And Belgrade is an extremely photogenic city.
But it is at nighttime when Belgrade really comes alive and the people gather to socialize – get three or more Serbs together and you have an instant party!
And when there’s not enough room to party on land, they tie a boat up to the river bank and party on!
I must admit I was surprised at the lively and friendly spirit of the Belgradians – having heard all the stories about the recent war – but the reality on the ground is one of absolute revival.
From the heavy weight of their history, Belgrade is going through a re-birth and is re-inventing itself as a very exciting destination.
Belgrade is looking forward to the future.
The city itself is peppered with historical monuments and cathedrals.
And pleasant walks welcome the visitor.
But history is always smiling behind the corner, ready to showcase some of its marvels at every step.
In sum, Belgrade makes an excellent destination for both enjoyment and exploration – discover Belgrade!
